Itinerary:

 

Warm-up

  1. Alpine knots (12).
  2. Three fundamental alpine concepts: ultimate backup, fall factor amd SRENE principle.
  3. Two major causes of alpine accidents. How to avoid them and what to do if it happens.
  4. Random Alpine Tip of your choice (list of Alpine Tips here)
  5. Risk categories. Risk taking, risk avoiding, neutral. 
  6. Rig and analyse hauling system "Double Mariner" (7:1)

Alpine belay

Partner check
Belay fundamentals: taking in/paying out rope - alpine style
Clipping into belay station
Belay voice commands
Hip belay
Belay anchors and SRENE principle
Belay systems: off-harness (ABC)/redirect/off- anchor
When things go wrong: locking belay device, belay escape, belay re-enter


Required Items to Bring:

Standard base alpine gear set.

Climbing rope of your choice.

Recommended Items to Bring:
Use our Event Checklists to make sure you have everything you need.
Rappel gloves Used and retired 8mm climbing rope (or else)

Notes:
  • Ideally will train on one of the Squamish crags, but if the weather is not so good, will move indoors, location to be determined.
  • This is not a course - you must have minimum alpine experience and prior formal training.
  • Be sure to check SPAM folder for important messages regarding this event.

Prerequisites
Formal mountaineering training.
Must have climbed at least one Alpine Select route.
