Become an avalanche expert with Mountain Skills Academy & Adventures!

This two day, industry-leading AST1 course is an introduction to avalanche rescue skills and the principles of safe travel in the backcountry. After a day of class and a day in the field, you will learn what gear you need and how to use it, how to read terrain, and how to rescue a buried companion. The course is tailored exclusively for skiers and snowboarders who want to safely venture outside of the ski- area boundary or who are interested in heading into the backcountry.

This course will be taught by a CAA certified professional through Mountain Skills Academy & Adventures (MSA). The course is for ACC members only, at a discounted price of $220.15 + GST, with the discount code "MGACC15".

You will also have to purchase a Whistler backcountry lift pass for one or more of the days ($62 + GST) if you don’t have a season’s pass.

Please note, this course requires a minimum of 6 participants to run. In the event that fewer than 6 participants sign up, MSAA will attempt to fill remaining spots with members of the general public. If minimum numbers cannot be met prior to the course date, the course will be rescheduled or a refund provided to participants.

The AST2 course consists of one classroom day and one outdoor field day consisting of snowpack and avalanche hazard assessment, terrain selection and avalanche rescue skills You can find info on curriculum, gear list, and detailed itinerary here: /courses/avalanche-skills-training-level-1- skiers-and-snowboarders-whistler-squamish/
