|CASCADE VOLCANOES SPRING SKIING
Thu May 11 --> Alpine start; drive to Mt Shasta, California:
1085 km / 12:00 hours
Free camp at Bunny Flat parking lot and/or horse camp/sierra club lodge.
1) Climbing Permit ($20) - self issue at trail heads (not reservation required)
2) Wilderness Pass - self issue at trail head
Fri May 12 --> Hike/ski to lake Helen (3182 m) high camp. Ski around the area and Camp. Bring stove, 1 or 2 dinners and camp gear.
Sat May 13 -->
Alpine Start (5 am) and climb Mt Shasta (4317 m) via Avalanche Gulch
Total km: 18 km from trailhead
Total gain: 2200 m from trailhead
Notes: Apparently the longest ski run in Continental America.
Hazards: No glacier travelling (no ropes); a long day. Ski Lunch on the way. Back to trailhead by 2:00 pm

Sun May 14 --> Weather Option Day or Rest Day - Creator lake visit + Drive to drive to Mt Hood Timberline Lodge (The Shining Lodge)
Free camp near the Timberline Lodge.
Wilderness permit and registration required (free)
Mon May 15 --> Alpine Start (4 am) and climb Mt Hood via south side route (standard route). Descent for a great part on ski runs
Hazards: sulfuric fumes.
Descent by 11 am; back to car by 1:00 pm. Ski lunch/beers. Drive back to Cougar, Washington to climb Mt Saint Halen:

Tue May 16: Alpine start 4 am and Climb Mt St Helens; Worn Flows Route; Hazards: fumes; volcanic ashes; unstable crater rims, eruptions.
