Best of the Rockies Hiking / Scrambling – Lake O’Hara & Lake Louise area Group 1

Banff and Yoho National Parks in the vicinity of Mount Victoria with Lake Louise on its’ east and Lake O’Hara to its’ west, offer some of the most impressive, beloved and iconic hiking/scrambling and climbing opportunities in the Canadian Rockies. This camp features 3 nights in the ACC Elizabeth Parker (EP) Hut at Lake O’Hara and 4 nights at the ACC/HI Alpine Centre - Lake Louise (or other nearby accommodation - see links below) for hikes and scrambles in both areas.

Leaving Vancouver on July 15, this 8 day (7 nights) (carpooling) excursion involves :-
-One day travel to Lake Louise (HI LL Alpine Centre – Hostel or similar) for Saturday night stay,
In order to be at Lake O’Hara parking lot for 8:30 am bus departure to Elizabeth Parker (EP) Hut.
-3 nights at ACC EP Hut with time for 3 ˝ days of hiking/scrambling in the area. Followed by
-3 nights at Lake Louise HI - Alpine Hostel (or similar) for another few days hiking/scrambling in the area
before driving back to Vancouver on July 22.

The EP portion of this camp All-inclusive cost $335 per person. See Additional Notes below for payment instructions.
Will be fully catered with an in-house chef to maximize meal enjoyment and exploration time in this fabulous setting. Bring limited quantity of your own treats etc if desired. EP Hut stay portion costs includes all hut fees, wilderness pass, bus pass, food & chef.
Each participant will need to bring a soft side container to transport & safely store approximately 10 lbs being your share of food & supplies…from Hostel to parking lot in the bus and to the EP Hut…inside your overnight pack see also required items to bring

The Lake Louise portion (first and last 3 nights) of this camp…..4 nights Dorm @ 49.05 = 196.20
Will be based out of the ACC / HI Alpine Centre where ACC member rates apply (Dorms 49.05 / Couples private room 152.50 per night) which are significantly lower than available elsewhere in town. Participants must reserve (credit card number only required) and pay directly upon arrival for their own accommodation at Lake Louise. Please update trip spreadsheet after accommodation booked.

Meals, Cooking & Restaurants
The Hostel has kitchen facilities. For those so inclined food can be bought in Banff (limited selection in Lake Louise) or brought from Vancouver for preparation on site.

There are several restaurants in town, and it is not uncommon to go out for a group dinner while in the Lake Louise / Banff area.

Required Items to Bring:
Toilet Paper TP
A soft-sided food carrying bag….(to convey your share of the prepared food inside your pack from the Lake O’Hara parking lot….onto the bus and then from the bus stop to the Elizabeth Parker Hut about 500 yards)
Sleeping bag, PJ’s personal hygiene kit etc & slippers, headlamp
Bring your own (in small quantities) supplemental special treats
General hiking paraphernalia boots, poles, helmet, micro-spikes, crampons, maps etc In addition for those considering scrambling light rope, 2 locking carabiners, belay device, harness
Large Pack to carry your own personal gear (AND WITH SUFFICIENT ROOM FOR your share of food & supplies as mentioned above)
Clothing (& changes) suitable to high mountain conditions.
Day Sack, Water Bottle, Sun screen, light gloves sun hat etc.

Carpool Cost: Approximate vehicle expense for this event is $400.00 (calculated at total Km * $0.25, effective Saturday, October 19, 2019). This is based on the current provincial government rate for private vehicle use.  Please pay your share of the cost to the carpool driver.


Transfer to Participant Status Upon preliminary approval a “Wait Listed club member” will receive an invitation to participate on this event
. Fulfilling all of the invitation requirements listed below will result in transfer to participant status for the event. (In other words…we aren’t asking you to pay for accommodation, food etc without providing assurance that after doing so you will be admitted to the trip)

Participant admission requirements
1 Arrange overnight accommodations at Lake Louise (lodging credit card number is sufficient for most accommodation). Proof that accommodation or alternate has been arranged supplied to coordinator.
2 Submit payment of $335 for EP portion of Camp (payment instructions sent separately).
3 Confirm Travel / Carpooling arrangements on Google Carpooling / Travel doc.
4 Advise of any special dietary conditions or restrictions that should be taken into account for you. See diet page on Google doc.
5 Identify any group or special equipment you may bring along or fee the group should have.
6 Because time is short and there may be quite a few wait list members anxious to participate prospects must respond within one week of being invited

- We encourage all members to follow our Etiquette Guidelines at all times while participating in ACC VA events.

Make a Payment:Although there is a cost for this event, you do not pay through the ACC VA. Please review the event details carefully for information about how/where to make your payment.

Cancellation/Partial Attendance:

Note: If you don't show up we will be very hurt!
There are several significant financial components to this event and we will where possible attempt to accommodate participants who face genuine hardship in fulfilling their commitment to participate.

In General (prior to 60 days before the event) where a participant has paid for the EP portion of the event and due to a significant unforeseen circumstance is no longer able to do so…..But if there is a willing and acceptable wait listed member to take over the spot. A $35 cancellation fee will be withheld from the refund amount.

Our group must pay all Hut Fees to ACC National 60 days in advance of the event, and pay for all food 30 days in advance of the event and are subject to their policies as follows
Large Groups (10 or more)
** Cancellations made 30 calendar days or more will be refunded 80% of the total reservation.
** Cancellations made less than 30 calendar days in advance will be refunded 50% of the total reservation.
** No-shows and cancellations made within 24 hours will not be refunded.
THIS POLICY INCLUDES ALL CHANGES TO EXISTING RESERVATIONS (Reduction in duration of stay, number of users or change in reservation location)
O'Hara Bus: Please be at the O'Hara parking lot at least 20 minutes prior to departure. Reservations become invalid 10 minutes before departure. Note that the bus schedule operates on Mountain Daylight Savings Time.
A 72 hour notice is required for Lake O’Hara bus cancellations otherwise your reservation will be non-refundable.

We are constrained by club policy and have limited time and resources to deal with last minute cancellations. Please consider this when signing up for this event.
