  • Fri: drive to trailhead at rubble creek, ski in. In average conditions it takes ~5 hours to ski into the hut.
  • Saturday: skiing
  • Sunday: ski-out, drive home
Burton hut has room for 12 people, and another group of 6 will be there so I am looking for up to 5 others to join this trip. It may be useful to bring a tent or bivy in case the hut is crowded, and this way more people are welcome to join the trip. There is no wood stove or heater in the hut, but it should be cozy with 12 people. It is highly recommended to bring a winter sleeping bag!

Required Items to Bring:
  • Transceiver
  • Shovel+Probe
  • Overnight gear
  • Skis or splitboard
  • Donation for the hut and Garibaldi park user fee

Use our Event Checklists to make sure you have everything you need.
  • winter sleeping bag
  • food
  • humor
  • tent or bivy

How to Get There:
Event Directions:Rubble Creek Parking and Trailhead

The Sphinx Glacier drains a large basin above Sphinx Bay at the E end of Garibaldi Lk. This basin is a first class ski mountaineering area with half a dozen intermediate objectives and a tremendous variety of peaks and ski runs. Skiiing is on open slopes with descents of 700-1200m. The route and terrain described here is capable of producing avalanches. Safe travel requires the skills and equipment to assess and mitigate avalanche hazards. A professionally taught training course is highly recommended.
