I grew up in Vancouver and started hiking at the ripe age of three. A true Vancouverite, I am always busy hiking, moutaineering, climbing, sailing, kayaking, scuba diving, golfing, surfing, and anything else active and outside! I joined the ACC in 2006 and joined the section in 2008 to take on the role of Secretary. I recently completed the Basic I Mountaineering course with the club. I have hiked extensively in all across Canada, the western United States and Norway and am planning a trip to Kilimanjaro for June 2010! Jay has been a member since 1973. He has climbed lots of mountains, mostly in BC and Washington. He also loves to ski tour. Jay has been Assistant Chair, Climbing Chair, Conservation rep to the FMCBC, President of the FMCBC and currently helps with promotions, leading courses and trips. 	Website & iCal Administrator Kayla Stevenson
Kayla Stevenson has enjoyed hiking, backcountry skiing and climbing in the mountains for many years. Her favourites include the Rockies, Purcells, Selkirks, Columbias, the Coast Mountains, and several of the West Coast ‘volcanos’. Her most memorable mountain experiences have been multi-day high traverses in remote backcountry, and leading a group of hikers on their first roped climb up Mt. Baker. She joined the Alpine Club of Canada in 1995 and has been active in both the Vancouver Island and Vancouver Sections, along the way attending several General Mountaineering Camps and other National camps. Although she has stayed active as a volunteer, in more recent years she has taken up somewhat gentler pursuits, including cycling. 	Archives Haberl Hut Committee Liz Scremin
Liz Scremin started hiking, backpacking, climbing, canoeing and skiing in the early 1970s and was introduced to kayaking in the early 1980s. She joined the ACC in 1985 and found the Club a great source for new techniques, trips and friends. Liz served 5 years as Vancouver Section Chair from 1999 to 2004. From 2002 to 2006, she worked to design and construct the Club's Jim Haberl Hut in the Tantalus Range. Liz's favourite trips are spring ski traverses in the Coast Mountains (the Neve, Spearhead, Powdercap, Pemberton Icecap, Misty Icefields, McBride Range, and Lillooet Icecap). She is fascinated with the Arctic and since 1990, has done numerous backpack, canoe and ski trips in Alaska (Juneau Icecap, Glacier Bay, ANWR), Yukon (Kluane, Ivavvik), NWT (Banks Island), Nunavut (Ellesmere Island, Baffin Island) and Iceland. 	Camps Coordinator Lynn Erickson
Lynn Erickson has been a member of the ACC since the mid-90's and a member of the Spokane Mountaineers since the mid 80's. She enjoys hiking, climbing, skiing, kayaking, cycling... just about anything outdoors. She enjoys climbing mountains around the world, from the Northwest's volcanos (from Mt. Hood to Rainier to Baker) to Mt. McKinley in Alaska, Galdøpiggen (highest peak in Scandinavia) in Norway to Mt. Kilimanjaro in Africa, and traveling and meeting people in other countries. Richard has been hiking, climbing and skiing since the 1960’s. After joining the ACC Vancouver Island section in the 1990’s he has climbed and skied with the Alpine Club in the Rockies, Selkirks, Monashees, Purcells and on several west coast volcanoes. Rob Brusse – Chair Vancouver Section Born in Amsterdam, our family immigrated to Canada when I was 4 and settled in Greater Vancouver. While at school, was introduced to outdoor adventuring through YMCA Summer Camp “Howdy” and the cabins the “Y” maintained at First Lake on Hollyburn Mtn, and I became acquainted with the challenges of skiing on the convoluted hummocks of Mt Seymour through the Burnaby Parks & Recreation Ski program. At University joined VOC where my budding interest in outdoor adventuring, (along with an aversion to classes and exams) had an opportunity to blossom. Early scrambles on the Lions, hikes to Fissile, and climbs on Alpha, Sky Pilot, and Shuksan along with back country tours over the Nevé & Spearhead fed an appetite for more adventures locally and further afield. VOC Christmas trips to the Rockies where we’d stay at the Stanley Mitchell and Elizabeth Parker huts made joining the Alpine Club worthwhile. As my own family grew we made use of Club facilities at Canmore for excursions in the Rockies, and frequently the Wheeler and Parker huts for scrambling & hiking trips with extended family & friends. Locally the Vancouver section provided an incredible platform to get out regularly on local trips and to meet others who shared my passions and interests for among other things, expeditions from Fairweather and Logan to Changtse and the Matterhorn. Over the years, I’ve had the good fortune to have stayed at numerous National and local club facilities, attend GMC’s and participate in the North Face Program. Education Graduated from high school in Vancouver and went on to UBC where I majored in VOC. A relentless proclivity for being at Sphinx camp when I should have been writing exams or spending the night (yet again) in the rain on Baker when a critical assignment was due resulted in an invitation from the Registrar that I not darken the doorstep of his august institution until such time as I had reviewed and come to a more copacetic settlement on my life`s priorities. Took some time to consider those priorities but got distracted again when, with a group of friends got involved with mimicking, on the local scene, the operations of a nearby American retail sporting goods outlet. Obtained a BA Honours from SFU (Accounting, Economics & Marketing) Employment Self-employed Accountant CGA Evenings and Weekends I’ve served the local section for longer than I care to admit as an event and camp coordinator and for over a dozen years served on the local executive as Treasurer. For the past few years I`ve been chair of the Vancouver Section and National Board rep. These last couple of years have been particularly engaging and rewarding as we work hard at the local level (and appear to be meeting with considerable success) to once more align how the section meets the needs of its existing and prospective members in light of new technological opportunities and changing preferences of our core supporters. For the first 40 years of my life, the sea was my first passion, Mountains became important in the 80s. Dogs have always been an important part of my life, but age turned them into 'flatlanders' and since I didn't always want to go alone, I decided to find out more about the Alpine Club, an organization I had known about for many years. I've been a member of the ACC for 3 short years, but a rewarding 3 years it has been. I've met many good people and made good friends. Hiking has become a year round activity, combined with snowshoeing, backpacking, scrambling, and an interest in mountaineering and rock climbing. 	Event Leader Amber McMinn
Amber Ringers has been a member of the Alpine Club for 2 years. She discovered the joy of playing in the mountains in 2004 and has been actively pursuing outdoor adventures since. She is regularly involved in rock climbing, ice climbing, mountaineering, ski touring, kayaking, hiking/snowshoeing and trail running. She has taken various climbing and skiing courses and has first aid training. Some of the recent trips she has done include: Climbing Mount Baker, Climbing Mt. Rexford, Ski touring in Rogers Pass, Ski touring the Garibaldi Neve Traverse, Climbing Joffre Peak and Mt. Matier and Paddling the Bowron Lake Circuit. 	Event Leader Amir K
Amir started hiking and scrambling in Iran at the age of around 7 and have continuously been involved in that to present. He joined ACC in 2007 and has attended a few courses to upgrade his technical skills on rock, ice and snow. He moved to BC from eastern Canada mainly because of the mountains in 2006 and has summited many highlighted summits in south coast BC. His passion is high altitude climbing and mountain expeditions. Among the highest points he has been to, are mount Kilimanjaro (5892m) and mount Damavand (5610m) and a dozen of +4000m summits in Iran. Dave is an itinerant Kiwi who moved to Vancouver in 2002. He has been active in the outdoors since his high school days hiking, rock climbing, mountaineering and back-country skiing throughout New Zealand as well as in Peru, Bolivia, the United Kingdom, France, Alaska, Washington and of course, BC. To keep himself doubly busy during the winter, he also coaches a girls soccer team. 	Event Leader Hiking & Backpacking Coordinator Paul Geddes
Paul has been a member of the Club since 1977. Paul is originally from the Toronto area where he was active in the Toronto Section. In 2003 Paul was awarded the ACC’s Silver Rope for Leadership Award for his leadership roles with the Toronto Section and National Section of the Club over a 25 year period. Between 1990 and 2006 Paul made seven ski-mountaineering trips to the Yukon’s St. Elias Mountains plus a successful trip to Mt. Fairweather. In the St. Elias Range he participated in 46 ascents of remote mountains. Of these mountains 27 were first (recorded) ascents and 35 new routes were established. 	Event Leader Susan Higginbottom
Susan Higginbottom became a member of the Alpine club after moving to BC, for the mountains, in the 1990s. For the last several years she has volunteered as the Programs Coordinator, seeking out and organizing the presentations at the Club's monthly socials. Susan's first encounter with the mountains was in the Alps of Switzerland and since then she has hiked here at home and abroad experiencing different mountain cultures.
